Carol Ryrie Brink Books in Order
Carol Ryrie Brink is an acclaimed American author of over 30 juvenile and adult books. Her novel Caddie Woodlawn won the prestigious 1936 Newbery Medal. Born Caroline Ryrie, Brink's life experiences greatly influenced her writing. Orphaned by age eight, she was raised by her maternal grandmother, who would later serve as the inspiration for Caddie Woodlawn. Brink's writing career began in her school newspapers, a talent she continued to nurture in college. She graduated Phi Beta Kappa from the University of California in 1918 after attending the University of Idaho for three years. Her first novel, Anything Can Happen on the River, was published in 1934. Brink's contributions to literature have been recognized with an Honorary Doctorate of Letters from the University of Idaho in 1965. In her honor, Brink Hall houses the UI English Department and faculty offices, and the children's section of the Moscow, ID Carnegie public library bears her name.
