Carmen Maria Machado is a celebrated author whose innovative and provocative works have garnered critical acclaim. Her debut short story collection, Her Body and Other Parties, was a finalist for numerous prestigious awards, including the National Book Award, the Kirkus Prize, and the Dylan Thomas Prize. It went on to win the Bard Fiction Prize, the National Book Critics Circle's John Leonard Prize, and the Crawford Award. In 2018, The New York Times recognized Her Body and Other Parties as a member of "The New Vanguard," a list of 15 remarkable books by women shaping the future of 21st-century fiction. Machado's essays, fiction, and criticism have been featured in The New Yorker, the New York Times, and other prominent publications. She holds an MFA from the Iowa Writers' Workshop and has received fellowships and residencies from esteemed institutions, including Yaddo and the Millay Colony for the Arts. Currently, she serves as the Writer in Residence at the University of Pennsylvania, living in Philadelphia with her wife.
