Candice Carty-Williams is a trailblazing author, publisher, and advocate for underrepresented voices. Born to a Jamaican cab driver and a Jamaican-Indian dyslexic receptionist, she defied expectations by excelling in Media studies at the University of Sussex, where her teachers initially doubted her English abilities. After working at the Guardian Guide and entering the publishing industry at 23, she has spent her career championing literary fiction, non-fiction, and graphic novels through her marketing work. A standout moment came when she interviewed David Cronenberg, receiving his praise as a 'delightful person'. In 2016, Carty-Williams founded the Guardian and 4th Estate BAME Short Story Prize, a prestigious award celebrating black, Asian, and minority ethnic writers. She is also a regular contributor to Refinery29 and i-D, using her platform to amplify diverse voices and perspectives.
