Betty Neels is a celebrated British romance author born on September 15, 1910, in Devon, England, to a family deeply rooted in the civil service. Her idyllic childhood and adolescence laid the groundwork for the trials she would face during World War II. Neels pursued a career in nursing, earning her State Registered Nurse and State Certificate of Midwifery qualifications. As a member of the Territorial Army Nursing Service, she was deployed to France, where she narrowly escaped the invading forces in 1940. Her wartime experiences continued in Scotland and Northern Ireland, where she met her Dutch husband. After the war, Neels returned to nursing before turning to writing romance novels, which would become her signature genre. Her first book, 'Sister of Mercy', was published in 1969, marking the beginning of a prolific career that would see her become one of the most beloved authors of her time.
