Ann Rinaldi is a renowned young adult fiction author born on August 27, 1934, in New York City. She is celebrated for her captivating historical fiction novels, including In My Father's House, The Last Silk Dress, An Acquaintance with Darkness, A Break with Charity, and Hang a Thousand Trees with Ribbons. Rinaldi has penned an impressive forty novels, with eight notable works listed by the American Library Association. Her novel Wolf by the Ears was recognized as one of the best novels of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries. She is the prolific author of the Great Episode series, a series of historical fiction novels set during the American Colonial era, and has also written for the Dear America series. A seasoned writer, Rinaldi began her career as a newspaper columnist, continuing her column, The Trentonian, throughout her writing career. Her first published novel, Term Paper, was released in 1979, following four previously unpublished novels that she has described as "terrible." A devoted grandmother since 1991, Rinaldi draws inspiration from her eldest son, who introduced her to historical reenactments. She writes young adult books simply because she enjoys crafting them. Rinaldi resides in Somerville, New Jersey, with her husband, Ron, whom she married in 1960.
