Andrea Hairston is a visionary playwright, novelist, and theatre director known for her genre-defying works of science fiction and fantasy. As a celebrated author, her novels, including Mindscape and Redwood and Wildfire, have garnered widespread acclaim, with Mindscape earning the Carl Brandon Parallax Award and earning nominations for the Philip K. Dick Award and the James Tiptree, Jr. Award. As the Artistic Director of Chrysalis Theatre, Hairston has been at the forefront of innovative theatre, crafting original productions that seamlessly blend music, dance, and masks. A respected educator and scholar, Hairston serves as the Louise Wolff Kahn 1931 Professor of Theatre and Afro-American Studies at Smith College, teaching playwriting and African, African American, and Caribbean theatre literature.
